The Tax Manager of Transaction Tax Audits is responsible for managing an inventory of sales/use and gross receipts tax audits of select entities and associated reserves. This position partners with other tax groups (e.g., Compliance, Legal, Research and Tax IT) to ensure the Company resolves tax audits favorably. This person will work to understand applicable law, detail facts, develop audit strategies and negotiate favorable audit settlements. Additionally, this person will be working with their Senior Manager on presentations to upper management. This position and the related accounting will directly impact cash taxes, free cash flow and earnings per share. Where you’ll be working: In this hybrid role, you’ll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
What would I be doing?
- Develop strategy, respond to inquiries, negotiate settlements, present audit impacts, and manage related accounting.
- Work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and time constraints.
- Demonstrate an understanding of transaction tax laws, audit acumen, and the ability to negotiate and advocate favorable outcomes.
- Demonstrate a high degree of data analytics skills, including extracting and presenting large amounts of data for claims, audit support, and other needs.
- Calculate, establish, and monitor FAS 5 Reserves for Contingent Gains and Losses related to audits assigned.
What would make me qualified?
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suites.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Analytics/Business Intelligence or related discipline.
- Experience with sales/use and gross receipts tax with a proven record of effectively dealing with transaction tax audits.
- Experience with digital automation and data visualization technology (e.g., Alteryx, QLIK).
- An advanced degree in Law, Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science.
- Experience in the sales/use and gross receipts tax field for Big 4 accounting firms and/or Fortune 500 corporate tax departments.
- Experience including advanced tax audit techniques (ex. sampling) and tax research analysis.
- Experience in the technology and/or telecommunications industry.
- Proficient knowledge in Enterprise Resource Planning such as SAP.
- A professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMI).
- Experience as an auditor for a taxing authority.
Ideal Candidate
Must have Federal Tax experience on the corporation side not on the partnership sides and OneSource experience.
