The Senior Tax Manager of the State Income Tax Audit team is responsible for managing an inventory of the Company’s state income tax and franchise tax audits. This position partners with other tax groups (e.g., Compliance, Legal, Research, and Tax IT) to ensure a favorable resolution of the audit period. This person will work to understand applicable law, detail facts, develop audit strategies, and negotiate favorable audit settlements. Additionally, this person will be working with their Senior Director on presentations to upper management. This position and the related accounting will directly impact cash taxes, free cash flow, and earnings per share. You will be considered a valuable business partner and your contributions will make a difference!

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you’ll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.

What would I be doing?

  • Clear communication skills and strong research skills.
  • Ability to develop strategy, respond to inquiries, negotiate settlements, present audit impacts, and manage related accounting.
  • Working independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and time constraints.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of state income and franchise tax laws, audit acumen, and ability to negotiate and advocate favorable outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of data analytic skills including extracting and presenting large amounts of data for claims, audit support, and other needs.
  • Identify and calculate FIN 48/FAS 5 reserve needs.

What would make me qualified?

What we’re looking for…

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or six or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Experience in Sales, Use, and/or Gross Receipts Tax.
  • Experience with transaction tax audits including advanced tax audit techniques (e.g., sampling).
  • Experience in tax research analysis.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • CPA or Master’s Degree in Taxation.
  • An advanced degree in Law, Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science.
  • A professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA).
  • Experience with digital automation.
  • Experience with data visualization technology (e.g., Alteryx, QLIK).
  • Experience in the sales/use and gross receipts tax field for Big 4 accounting firms and/or Fortune 500 corporate tax departments.
  • Experience in the technology and/or telecommunications industry.
  • Knowledge in Enterprise Resource Planning such as SAP.
  • Experience as an auditor for a taxing authority.

Ideal Candidate

Must have Federal Tax experience on the corporation side not on the partnership sides and OneSource experience.
