Position Summary
The Regional Accounting Director is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations within an assigned group of US regions for STA. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting operational leadership with financial insights. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, process improvement & automation mindset, and experience in fleet-based or multi-location environments.
What would I be doing?
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for regional entities.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Analyze financial results, variances, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Partner with Regional Directors of Finance Operations (RDFOs) to provide actionable financial insights.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee general ledger, approve journal entries, review account reconciliations.
- Ensure proper accrual basis accounting (fuel, labor, maintenance, etc. accruals).
- Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures across locations.
- Supervise and improve close efficiency and accuracy.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Streamline regional month-end close process.
- Partner with leadership and relevant teams to accelerate the month-end closing process.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across systems (Oracle ERP, EPBCS, FCCS).
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop regional accounting teams.
- Establish performance goals and conduct evaluations.
- Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and audit requirements.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (including transportation-specific rules where applicable).
What would make me qualified?
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred).
- 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 3–5+ years in a leadership role.
- Experience in accounting transformation and automation.
- Experience in leading accounting integration for acquired new businesses.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, fleet management, or multi-site operations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with ERP systems (preferably Oracle) and financial reporting tools.
